Space Needle Tickets: The Complete Visitor Guide

The Loupe glass floor, the Chihuly combo, opening hours, the best time to go, and how to skip the line — everything you need before you book.

Seattle’s skyline has one unmistakable silhouette, and the Space Needle is it. Built for the 1962 World’s Fair, the 605-foot tower still draws more than a million visitors a year — but the experience today is very different from the one your parents remember. A 2018 renovation added glass everywhere: a revolving glass floor, tilting glass walls on the open-air deck, and floor-to-ceiling glass on the observation level. This page covers what a ticket actually includes, why most visitors pair it with Chihuly Garden and Glass, and the practical details — hours, timing, and getting there — that make or break a visit.

What a Space Needle ticket actually gets you

A standard Space Needle admission is a timed-entry ticket: you pick a slot, ride a glass elevator 520 feet up in about 42 seconds, and get access to two levels. The upper open-air observation deck wraps the tower with angled glass walls — locally nicknamed “Skyrisers” — that you can lean into, plus glass benches that appear to float above the city. One level down sits The Loupe, the tower’s headline feature. On a clear day the panorama takes in Puget Sound, Elliott Bay, the Olympic Mountains to the west, the Cascades to the east, and Mount Rainier to the south.

The ticket featured on this page is the Space Needle & Chihuly Garden and Glass combo, which starts at $78 per person and carries a 4.7 out of 5 rating from more than 2,380 verified guests. It bundles timed Space Needle entry with same-day admission to the neighbouring Chihuly attraction, a free downloadable audio guide, and free digital photos, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before your visit.

The Loupe: the world’s only revolving glass floor

The Loupe is the reason the Space Needle feels new again. It is the world’s first and only revolving glass floor, set on the tower’s 500-foot level, and it makes one full rotation roughly every 45 minutes — a slow, cinematic turn through the skyline. The structure is engineered rather than gimmicky: the floor weighs about 37 tons and is built from ten layers of glass. Its inner third is a solid surface for anyone who would rather not look straight down, while the outer two-thirds is transparent glass, so you can watch the tower’s elevators glide up and down and the city streets pass 500 feet below your feet. It is a genuine vertigo test — and the single most photographed thing at the top.

Space Needle alone, or the Chihuly combo?

This is the decision most visitors face. The Space Needle sits inside Seattle Center, and Chihuly Garden and Glass — a dedicated museum of Dale Chihuly’s monumental blown-glass sculpture — is a two-minute walk away, at the base of the tower. It comprises eight interior galleries, a landscaped outdoor garden, and the Glasshouse, which holds one of Chihuly’s largest suspended installations, plus live glass-blowing demonstrations through the day.

Buying the two attractions separately usually costs more than the combo, which is why the bundled ticket is consistently the best-selling option. If you have any interest in art — or simply want to make a half-day of it rather than a quick elevator ride — the combo is the better value. If you are extremely tight on time and only want the view, a standalone Space Needle ticket is fine; just know you’ll be walking past Chihuly to reach it. (Attraction gate prices change seasonally; the combo price shown here is the live GetYourGuide rate.)

Opening hours and the best time to visit

Hours shift with the season, and the Space Needle and Chihuly keep slightly different schedules, so always confirm your date at booking. As a general rule the Space Needle opens around 10am on weekdays, with later closes (up to 9–10pm) on weekends and through summer. Last admission is typically 45 minutes before closing.

For crowds, the quietest windows are before 11am and after 7pm — the middle of the day, especially on summer weekends, is the busiest. For views and photos, aim for sunset: the light over Puget Sound and the Olympics is at its best, and clear evenings turn the deck golden. Many visitors split the difference by booking a late-afternoon slot that carries them from daylight into dusk. If weather is your worry, remember Seattle’s cloud cover is real — a clear-day forecast matters far more than the exact hour you choose.

How long you need, and skipping the line

Plan on about 90 minutes for the Space Needle itself, and one to two hours for Chihuly, so a comfortable combo visit runs around three hours — a genuine half-day. Because tickets are timed and delivered as a mobile voucher, you bypass the main on-site ticket line; you still pass through a short security and elevator queue, which is shortest at the open and in the evening.

Getting to the Space Needle

The easiest arrival from downtown is the Seattle Center Monorail, which runs from Westlake Center (5th Avenue & Pine Street) straight to Seattle Center in about three minutes; step off, walk down the ramp, and the tower is directly ahead. Driving is the harder option — parking around Seattle Center is limited and pricey, though the 5th Avenue N garage, two blocks away, is the usual choice. Rideshare drop-offs are quick and avoid the parking hunt entirely.

Space Needle tickets vs Seattle CityPASS

If the Space Needle is the only attraction on your list, a single or combo ticket is the cheapest route. If you plan to see several Seattle sights, look at the Seattle CityPASS (around $108 for adults at the time of writing), which bundles the Space Needle plus the Seattle Aquarium and a choice of three more — Chihuly Garden and Glass among them — and advertises savings of up to 47%. The CityPASS version of the Space Needle even includes a day-and-night visit within 24 hours. The rule of thumb: for two attractions, the combo ticket on this page wins; for three or more, the CityPASS usually pulls ahead.

Is the Space Needle worth it?

For a first-time visitor, yes — the combination of the revolving glass floor, the open-air deck, and the Chihuly glasswork next door is hard to match anywhere else, and reviewers routinely call it a trip highlight. Book a clear-weather slot near sunset, add the Chihuly combo, and you have the definitive Seattle afternoon. Use the booking panel above to check live availability and prices, then reserve with free cancellation.

"My party enjoyed our visits to the Space Needle and Chihuly's. I wouldn't mind browsing through them again. HOWEVER, the location is awful... We did not enjoy the Big City atmosphere. It took us more than an hour to get through 4 blocks of traffic when we were ready to leave. We used Siri to guide us and we were constantly on the "fast path". I know there is nothing you can do about the traffic. But it was part of the experience."
